So, as the line says...

Router reports synching at 10mb, however when doing any DL I seem to have a magic ceiling of 4.2mb.

Speedtest also shows this...Pings of sub 20ms, connects at 10mb, start downloading and over say a period of 3-4 seconds degrades from an avg of 9.2mb to 4.2 where it tops out and remains for the remainder of the test.

Testing similarly with my FNB Connect account achieves a max DL rate of 9.2mb, but consistently.

Wht's telkom doing to my line? Softcap? Throttle? Pfft...

I know I can just use my FNB account, but I'm paying Telkom for a service.(and on contract)

Whats the point in paying full price for half the service?

Any help appreciated of course.

Sounds like you're using a 4MB uncapped account on a 10MB line.

OP, this is not directed at you....

This bothers me so much that I just can't keep it in anymore.

"ADSL 10MB Uncapped behaving dodge"
That should be "dodgy".

The difference?

Dodge = Avoid (someone or something) by a sudden quick movement: marchers had to dodge missiles thrown by loyalists
Words that rhyme with dodge: bodge, Hodge, lodge, wodge

Dodgy = Dishonest or unreliable: a dodgy second-hand car salesman OR ADSL 10MB Uncapped behaving dodgy
Words that rhyme with dodgy: podgy, splodgy, stodgy

I feel better now. Apologies for barging in with this, OP. :D

Most probably this. Where you getting 10Mbps before or it has always been like that?? Else you are being throttled

Sl8er dear,

Spend your energy wisely. DODGE. It's what I typed. The title can't be changed anymore. Deal with it.

Moving on...

If it's a cap, how does one check? Is there a URL to be used for this? Does my profile on Telkom's horrid site have this tucked away 400 clicks in?

I may have to rant similarly to Sl8er if I have to call their help-desk.

Tx.

Check your Telkom invoice for the following line item under Subscription Services:

Home uncap prem+ ... R503.51

... if it's not there you don't have a 10MB uncapped data account.

I said this was not directed at you specifically. ;)
Don't worry about how I spend my energy, rather worry about spending yours on telkom...you're probably going to need it.
Moved along.

Also, have you never heard someone say, "Sheez, that's so dodge..." In this case, a shortening of dodgy. I'm as much of a grammar nazi as the next person (actually probably much more), but when slang is involved the rules change.

I'm pretty sure the OP was using it that way and not reading the 'e' at the end of dodge as an 'ee'.
