Hi

I was wondering if some one could let me no if this is the normal speed i should be getting on my 4Mbb line ?

DSL UP
Downstream / Upstream (Kbps) 1536/512
Internet Connected
Connection Type PPPoE

Area - Cape Town Milnerton Ridge

Thanks

Probably wont help much, im ment to be on 4mb but it only syncs at 2mb. Its probably your line quality and/or distance from the exchange. Ive been down that road many times saying "I PAY FOR THIS GIVE ME 4mb NOW" and they go... no our infrastructure is comepletely useless and we will make you pay more than what you should so suck it.

i hate telkom :(

Same with me, mine only syncs at @ 1.5mb... Apparently they have 'plans' of building a mini-exchange between my house and the main exchange...

Their offering is an 'up to' 4096kb/s line...no guarantees what so ever. My folks pay for the 4MB line, they get 1024 in their area. I pay for a 4MB line and I get the full 4096kb speed. Depends on lots of things including where you live, how far the exchange is and quality of lines. Their only guarantee is that while paying for their fastest offering, up to 4096kb/s, you'll get no less than 640kb/s!

Same problem as me....crap line, attenuation etc. etc. been reporting my line since beginning of year, every time they say it is fixed, I check, nothing fixed, report it again. Will keep on doing so until the pigs can fly. I wanna set a record for consecutive fault reporting.

Heh... Strange thing... I find that the more you do that, the higher their "faults repaired" statistic goes up :)

But it does work - we had a problem at a client, line was "dirty" - noise on the line, slow speeds you name it. We threw our toys out the cot daily with the call centre had about 40 different technicians came out. Most plugged their router in and went to google and said - there the line is working. After some education they all agreed we had a problem but no resolution ... finally about 4 months later and after much screaming and crying and begging and pleading they replaced the DSlam at the exchange. The client and all his neighbours were down for 4 hours or so and then magically everything was perfect.
