Have you upgraded the firmware of the router?

You first need to upgrade the firmware before WPA will work.

Do not, under any circumstances, use WEP! Very easy to hack, rather use WPA with a good, strong password.

Amen to that. WPA2-PSK using AES. You can also check out https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm to help you generate a good password.
