My 2nd guess would be that even when plugging straight into the DSLAM, 8mbps is REALLY pushing ADSL that even then the SNR is only 10 at that speed. That's why they created ADSL2+ that goes up to 24mbps

br34k: Thank you for sharing. My upstream figures are SNR: 14dB, Att: 12dB (downstream SNR is 25dB, Att is 19dB). Wonder why I can't get 640kbps (no, I'm not bitching and moaning, just wondering)!
