ADSL Access In Jukskei Park?

I am trying to find some accurate information about ADSL access in Juskei Park.

4 years ago I signed up at Telkom for a 512 line however after 3 months of waiting still they had not come to install a new DSL line at my house, this is because the line that I had and still have is the same age as the house almost 30 years. After hours of calls to Telkom I finally gave up.

Since then the following has happened with line quality in my area:
  • Constant bad quality on phone line, ie: noise.
  • Constant no dial tone, due to weather or a techie fixing another conection and killing ours.
  • Constant cross talk on the line, once experiance up to 6 people, ie: 3 calls mixed into one, that was interesting.:erm:
  • Our number has also been assigned to other properties multiple times.
  • Though a techie has come to fix many of these problems the fix is not perminent and in at least two weeks we have another issue.
In the las 6 months of having the line we experienced approximately 1 - 2 weeks of usable connections each month. Thus in January last year I canceled the line.

However since then Telkom has come and done a few changes of cables in the area, as well as installing ADSL to a neighbor of mine, however before I decide to cancel my 3G contract with 8 months left on it I want to be sure if this area has stable ADSL.

What advice could anybody give me and does anybody have ADSL in this area and if you do what is your quality of service?

Speak to your neighbour about the ADSL part. As for voice, you can check if neotel has coverage in your area but i wouldn't use them for internet.

I am in Jukskei Park on the river, and my ADSL is pretty good.

Back in the day, I had an ISDN line which was great, until something somewhere got struck by lightning. Telkom never could fix the line properly after that, and so I cancelled. A few years later, I got a new Telkom account, with a new number, and suddenly everything was great again. Eventually I converted the line to 4mbps ADSL, and it almost always works perfectly.

The only problem is that about once a year, the speed suddenly drops. I then phone Telkom, fight with them for 3 or 4 days to replace the DSLAM, and then everything works perfectly again till another year has passed.

The phone line itself never has noise or crossed lines.

EDIT:
Thanks for jinxing me. I'm suddenly getting so many ping timeouts I had to connect with 3G to be able to do anything! :p

Thanks for some of the advice.

I have spoken to my neighbour about his ADSL, he said he has had no problems with phone quality or actual internet throughput. However, the worrying part is that he was told he could get a 4Mb Line but he never managed to get it and had to settle for a 512Kb.

The lineS that are running from the two poles past our house look like they need some serious attention, would Telkom actually bother servicing them?

PS: LOL, Neotel been there done that.
(Tried their flex offer for 3 months before cancelling)

Maybe next time there's a storm, a big branch will catch the lines and knock them down *nudge*nudge*wink*wink*

That way Telkom would have to come and repair things and maybe sort out the issues you've been having.

Does anybody know approximately where the Jukskei Park Exchange is.
I am wondering if this could be the reason that my neighbour was unable to get a 4Mb line, or if it was Telkoms incompetence?
