I use a local WebAfrica IS Local only account, but can browse local websites for a few minutes, then cannot browse after a while.
DNS is resolving when I ping a local website.

Can Remote Desktop, ssh, telnet, ftp into local sites except I cannot browse (http & https)
Tried changing from No Proxy, to Auto-Detect Proxy settings, makes no difference. I resolve the problem by rebooting the Netgear Router DG834G Firmware: V4.01.04.

If I am not capped and use my other IS International account then I have no issues, have phoned WA support.
Anyone had a similar problem, seems to point to DSL Router or WA Account, other computer on the network also cannot browse.

what does traceroute mybroadband.co.za show? (i think the equivalent windows command might be tracert)

Mine shows

If you're using windows, rather use nslookup to resolve host names, because ping may use the cached DNS entries. milomak, the correct command for Windows is 'tracert' like you've said.

I think when you do a trace route, the second hop should be a 196.xxx.xxx.xxx address when you're connected via a PPPoE connection to a WA account and your routing is correct.

See http://www.freeproxy.ru/en/free_proxy/faq/wpad.htm & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_Autodiscovery_Protocol for the automatic proxy detection. I doubt that any ISP's will be using this though.

Rebooted again for the umpteenth time today.

Can browse obvious as I am posting this, wont be able to browse for long, before it freezes

Let me look at writing a script using Linux lynx text based browser to see how long I can browse before it freezes,
embedding the date outputting to a file then chen when it stops dumping the result from the file
Run it in a Linux cron job every minute
date >> /tmp/test.txt;lynx www.test-server.com/test.txt -dump >>/tmp/test.txt

test.txt can contain something like * Dump Result * which will be outputed to the file /tmp/test.txt
with the date and time

RESULT: After 26 min of rebooting the router web browsing I cannot browse, then I have to reboot the DSL router grrr
Its seems something in the WA setup.

No problem with DNS resolving even when I cannot http browse.
