Hi
I have a customer they are on a farm about 1km out of town. The constantly have problems with their ADSL line. He asked me to come up with an alternative solution. They have 15 PC on the network and go through about 10 GB a month. There is a hill that cuts them of line of sight from town. I need the cheapest solution for them and it must be reliable.
Thank you

I think a single ADSL line with 15 PC's would be congested.

What's their cellphone reception like there and is there G,E,3G enabled tower nearby?
You don't need an alternative solution you need a redundancy solution.

no ponder's actually right ...coz the hill can be removed as well if it caused problems with 3g etc..... i think a dedicated line in2 that house would be the answer ....and also 15 people on adsl ??....geez ...unless thats like a 1g pipe going in2 the house they are obviously gonna have problems .....so my first option would be 2 get a bigger line from telkom and 15 people on 10gb's a month?? is that not 2 little ??....i know i personally use all of my 3gb every single month .....

It is funny that you say that the hill can be moved, they are a earth moving Construction Company :D The problem was that the Telkom line kept on dropping them. The speed was ok as they are not all on the net the whole time. The line problem just stopped one day so Telkom must have fixed something somewhere.

setup a bridge on the hill, use a mikrotik router, power it with a solar panel and some rechargeble batteries. Probably set you back about R10K (the soalr panel is expensive). Then route from the farm to the bridge, bridge to town.

pray nothing gets stolen!

Do you think I should get a backup solar panel? Just incase something happens to the first one...
