Does anyone know of any call answering software for an ADSL line? I know it sounds like a stupid idea, but there is software available for the American networks (callwave.com). thanks

I may be wrong, but this is impossible: the ADSL modem has a high-pass filter that blocks out the voice signal. Software for this sort of thing normally only works through a standard fax/modem (don't know about ISDN; probably).

You can plug in a standard answering machine or fax machine or pc modem so I dont see why it wouldnt work. Just make sure you use a filter.

I think the scenario is: have answering machine *software* for a signal coming through an ADSL modem. That is impossible (the voice signal is filtered out by the ADSL modem?).

You are quite right that there is nothing stopping you from putting in a micofilter and then using a standard answering machine; but not the question asked.....

Ja, just get a voice modem and connect it to the line through a filter, then google for answering machine or something.

From what I can see callwave.com is a service that bypasses the home phone when the number is unavailable. The message is then sent to the pc regardless of the type of line (ADSL, ISND, or pots). Its actually more suited to traditional pots modems. With ADSL and ISDN (unless you're using the 2nd channel at the same time) you can still make and receive calls while you're online.

To obtain the same sort of features you could have call forwarding enabled on the line and have all calls forwarded to your mobile. If we lived in a country with a reasonable national operator and/or regulator who would allow voip companies like skype to issue local numbers the same functionality could be offered here. The call would be routed to your voip number and your pc could deal with it.
