hi
i had a near perfect 4mb adsl line, with web africa as isp. moved house, telkom installed adsl for me, everything was fine.
got netgear usb wifi for the 2 desktops (my wife and i), and my laptop has wireless built in. we connect to a telkom 100 mega wireless device.
since last week, i get this strange error when trying to connect to the webafrica connection on the desktop:
error 691; username and password is invalid on the domain.
logged a fault with isp, no fix. problem becomes worse, i can hardly ever connect. use a different user pass with isp, works sometimes.
monday, the isp tells me they are having issues with their authentication, as they are moving servers or some crap like that (let's do major changes and dont tell the customer).
fired the isp.
signed up with openweb online, connect, everything works (after about an hour).
internet was glorius all day.
this evening, my wife tries to connect to openweb, also got error 691, invalid username on teh domain.
reboot the modem, repair wireless, still wont connect. use the webafrica connection it works for my wife. she finishes her stuff, switches off pc.
switch on laptop in bed, connect instantly without any problem.
now, question i have: if the same error is occurring with different isp's, is there a chance its a telkom problem, and not the isp problem?
could it be a problem with the router? (i can't connect to it using its ip and admin admin as user pass)
or could it be concurrent connections that are not working.
gaaaaa! its the most frustrating thing to have unshaped bandwidth, a 4meg (allegedly) adsl line and not be able to use it.
i am seriously considering getting neotel (rivonia area) - any of you tried it over a period - will it work for wow?
boodah.
