Hi there...

I want to install an ADSL line at my Business / Home for use for a webserver that I want to host locally. I just want to know the following recommendations from you guys:

  • Line Speed (512K / 1Mb / 2Mb / 4Mb???)
  • Monthly Cap?
  • What service provider?

I want to cancel out the use of using hosting comapanies, and therefore want to host my client's websites on my own server(s).

It all depends on how often your server will be accessed, by how many people, how large the files/pages will be, etcetera.

A 4Mb line is a must.
As for ISP, but since you want to use it for business, you will need an ISP that sells business ADSL access. Not sure who does and who doesn't.
CAP: Depends once again on the amount of data transferred in a month.

Thanx for that Info...

How much can I expect to pay for a 4Mb line per month, and for instance a 2GB cap for now...?

A 4Mb line costs around R436, I think it is and a shaped line (fine if you provide http/mail/ftp) only costs around R65/g --> R65+65+436= R566/month. This of course excludes your normal phone line but if you already have one then you're fine.
