I have ADSL since Aug. 2003, now I would like to cancel the subscription.
I have seen comments that Telkom requires a 30 days notice ?
I have checked Telkoms websites, Terms and Conditions, but I only found
cancellation for the ADSL bundle. Completing a form and pay a penalty if, it is earlier then the 24 month contract. I first send email to the support, but no reply, to the webmaster, no reply. I paid R2000,00 for the Pots Ethernet router at the time. My ADSL line was down a few days, but the service fee remain for a full month. So I really want to get rid of this subscription it is not value for money. I went to Telkoms Service center they only could give me a form to order the ADSL bundle, but no form to cancel. So I got a FAX No. and faxed my cancellation , no reply, then I got from a variety of Telkom ADSL Tel Numbers more FAX Numbers. I'm staying in PTA and had to FAX it to a Durban Fax No. So in Total I faxed my cancellation to 5 Numbers. I also recently saw on Telkoms Website a few email support and help addresses, but it seems to me they are gone.If anybody has got more Info on how to cancel the Service pls let me know. I'm waiting that in the future Month to come a better service with ADSL will be available.

Good grief.
I called 0800 237 500, pressed 1, clearly explained that I want to terminate my ADSL connection, and not the telephone line as well. No faxes were sent. They terminated my Telephone Line, My ADSL Line and my ADSL Subscription to Telkom ISP. I then called 10217 (When my telephone stopped working), and told them what they did, 2 days later my phone was reconnected. Then entire process took 4 days, 2 days without a phone. This was november last year (2004).

The difference seems to be: use of the word "terminate" versus the use of "cancel" :D

To be honest, Telkom seem to change their policy about needing a fax (and then suddenly not again) on an almost weekly basis, and I have on occasion had reason to call up Telkom several consecutive days & weeks.

Hossie, just as a matter of interest, have you considered downgrading to HomeDSL384 (assuming it isn't a business account)?

Cancel or Termination ?

To me it sounds the same. I don't want to downgrade, I also don't mind
the Telefone since I have ISDN. So I had to get an additional Telefon, Telkom is not providing ADSL via ISDN. I called all numbers in the book including 0800 237500. Every time I spoke to a consultant they gave different answers. I had to write a letter, I had to sent a Fax and a copy of my ID, I received Fax No's to sent it to. Fax in Durban in Pretoria a 0800 No. So I was unable to
to cancel the service via the Telefone, but I ordered the service via the 10219 No. I also was not able to find the condition of a 30 day notice.
I also completed the document for ICASA and hope it will have an effect on
the way Telkom is conducting it's business and prices. I also feel bad, because connecting to my family in Germany and seeing what speed for
what price their get the service, one really see it as robbery here. So my only hope is that Telkom will disconnect me. But anyhow thanks for the replies.

Main Reason to terminate

I have to add, that I'm now nearly for 10 years retired.
The new 384Kb ADSL service seems to me like the old City
Council of Pretoria indroduced Mini Busses for the City Transport.
And before they could put Bicycles near to a stop, they were
replaced. So I hope the same will happen to Telkom, I do not
have a business, but I have plenty of time, so ADSL I really
liked. But in Europe they started at a speed of 768Kb and advanced
to far higher speed and Bandwith. And with it they reduced the prices
for lower speed connections. I used the connection mainly
to assist people over there using remote assistance with XP and
it worked very good. So I will go back to an ISDN Internet connection.
It will bring my Telefon account down from R1600,00 monthly at least
to R 600,00 a month, I can rather use the monthly saving and purchase
new Computer equipment. If the market changes for ADSL and I'll
get value for money I will for sure reconnect. I also tried iBurst but
they only replied to my first email , more questions I had were not
answered, so I really hope things will change here.

Ditto. Sadly, for many over here, antiquated ISDN is still the best value/service.
We're probably the only country in the world where isdn is still widely used.
My signature is soooo apt.

And if you believe a word of what Telkom tells you in its ads, we are also the only country in the world that is so technologically advanced that Telkom can create an ISDN-to-ISDN linkup to another African country which doesn't even have ISDN lines, for the purpose of performing remote surgery on a dying kid, with a required bandwidth capacity that ISDN will never be capable of :(
