Dear Sir/Madam
I have ADSL installed at my residence and a second installation at my business. While I understand the cost implications of the international pipe and therefore the reason for capping the international bandwith at 3 Gig. I find it totally unacceptable that any local surfing is included in the cap. As a matter of interest, the majority of my surfing is done on local sites. My kids are Internet gamers and play mainly through local "SAIX" servers, which are very good by the way. We were capped every single month over the last 3 months for the last couple of days of each month. Our international usage is less than approx.10 % of total monthly usage.
It is also impossible to update any anti-virus programmes once the ADSL connection has been capped. Most anti-virus updates are fairly quick to download but with the drastically reduced bandwith to nearly zero, the programmes time-out.I find this to be unacceptable, especially when one considers the speed with which viruses spread and the necessity to maintain up-to-date daily virus protection.
With internet/computing technology at the advanced stage it is today, it should be possible to monitor international and local usage separately. The local internet/telephone structure was installed a long time ago and I do not think that we should have to pay twice for that.
Since ADSL was first advertised, Telkom has changed the service specifications several times as and when Telkom felt the need to do so. This is your privilege however, Telkom should also keep its customers informed regarding changes, for example, via a friendly email. Not everyone has the time to surf through Telkom's (confusing) website to find the small print on ADSL.
Furthermore, I find it very presumptuous of Telkom to decide the purpose for which a person may use ADSL (Refer to quote from Telkom website : ). At no time did Telkom ever advertise that the intention was to provide ADSL for people who only use it for specific purposes or that there were "purposes it was not intended <font color="red">"The 3 Gig' cap protects users from a small minority of people who abuse the service and use it for purposes it was not intended for"</font id="red">for"
I do not use sites such as (fasttrack, gnutella, napster, kazaa, e-donkey etc.) and I am still being capped every month. I therefore believe the 3 Gig cap is insufficient and should be increased to 4 - 5 Gigs or that local surfing should be measured differently to international surfing.
Yours sincerely

ADSL is a best effort service and no guarantees are provided on throughput. ADSL is an access medium to the Internet or your preferred ISP and will not overcome any bandwidth related constraints within the World Wide Web.
As part of the monthly Internet subscription subscribers have access to 3 Gigabytes of bandwidth. The 3 Gigabytes is measured on both local and international bandwidth for up- and downloads combined. Once a subscriber exceeds the 3 Gigabyte volume limit for the month international traffic will be transported over a throttled international link without affecting local access. Capped subscribers will therefore experience slower access speeds on the throttled international link, since the service will be shared with all other capped subscribers. Should you require additional bandwidth you are allowed to purchase an additional account from 0800 500 200. The additional accounts won't be billed on your Telkom account and you will be able to settle your subscription via direct debit order or credit card.
International traffic is shaped according to protocol, this ensures that bandwidth hungry applications such as peer-to-peer including Kazaa, Fasttrack, Napster & Pop3 etc. does not adversely affect other applications.
Kind Regards,
What a lot of crap !!!<font color="navy"></font id="navy">
