Here is my complaint to Telkom and the reply, I was basically told to go to hell!

My experience with your company has over the last period
turned from bad to worse. I can not believe that a company the size
of Telkom can treat it's customers with so much contempt.

I ordered ADSL more than 3 months ago, I was told that it is available
in my area but after 1 month nothing happened. I phone again only to
find out that the original order was cancelled and a new one made and
that now we had to wait another 20 days. I had to phone again only to
find out that now no ports were available.

I have had to phone Telkom multiple times and not once was I contacted
by your employees even thought they promised to phone back. But then
finally I got a call from Telkom internet to inform me that my ADSL
internet account has been activated. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT GET
IT!!!!

I was overjoyed when I finally got my ADSL but after 11 days I'm
already over my limit. My line has already been down twice but I
still managed this. I don't download music, videos. I don't use
Kazaa or e-donkey but I'm still being treated like a little child by
your company.

You give a 3 GB limit but you count all local traffic to this limit
even though you say that it's to limit international traffic. How
stupid is that??? My internet is now so slow that I can't even update
Windows with the latest patches or my Antivirus program. How am I
supposed to get material for my studies when international sites are
so slow that some pages don't even open?

This is ridiculous! I am not the enemy, I am one of your customers so
please start treating me like one!!! I demand an explanation and do
not send me an automated message!

AND THE REPLY
=============

Good morning Jean

Thank you for your enquiry. The product was designed in calculating
the national bandwidth as well so as to reduce the cost of the
service. Also at this stage of the month the contention on the
restricted pipe will be very high meaning all customers reaching their
cap will be competing for bandwidth on the restricted pipe thereby
bringing it to a virtual standstill. Customers are paying for a 3 gig
service , nothing more, the additional throughput however small is a
gesture from Telkom more than anything else. The customer can
purchase another username and password that will give him another 3
Gig , more than that there is not more that we can offer but the
option to cancel the service.

You can contact your ISP to enquire about an extra 3Gig account. If
you are with TelkomInternet, please call 0800500200

Thanks for your response / Dankie vir u navraag

I'm sure that "gesture" translates to "suck our big corporate c*ck.".

"...so as to reduce the cost of the service", who the hell are they kidding?

Mate, take out an overdraft and go for that extra account. Surf the net, get your emails and DON'T DARE USE YOUR ADSL FOR ANYTHING MORE, that would be abusing the system for all other 'friendlies' out there, they will suffer, take Telkom's word for it.

Be grateful to Telkom you get your 'extra' after the very generous limit. They really are out to ensure you are up there with world-class standards.

Sarcasm seems to maybe be a better tact.

Hello There.

I would suggest CANCELLING, and to wait for SENTECH's offering, Wireless Broadband Internet, same speed as Telkom's ADSL offering, but for MUCH cheaper. I currently use Wi-Fi in the UK, and do say that it is brilliant.

Have a look at Sentech's web-site: http://www.sentech.co.za

Also, The service and responses you are getting from Telkom, is exactly what you can expect from a Monopoly...... they can do anything they want because they think that you cannot go anywhere else for the service....

So glad new SNO coming soon to SA.... Also, thanks for companies like Sentech...

Cheers.
Jacques

Uh, better take a closer look at this link (may be wrapped):

I have already decided to go to Sentech, I'm in Melville so I'm close to the Brixton tower and should be able to get a signal.

I just can't believe that we are stuck with such an incompetent company to provide telecom services. I really hope Sentech do this right and I'm not stuck with them for 2 years.

It saddens me to read this post by chop.[:(]
What is even worse is that he is only one of many who have gone through this trauma.
Dealing with Telkom is like taking a practical course in Stress & Emotional Management.[B)]
Once again, I ask:
(a) how much does international bandwidth cost Telkom?
(b) why can't they offer more ADSL package options so us customers can at least choose how we want to be screwed, because let's face it, it not going to be cheaper.
