I was told by a webafrica representative that I would have to cancel my current ADSL line with telkom in order to switch over to the ADSL complete bundle with webafrica. Is this the case with all the ISPs? If so, is this service any good to users who are already signed up with Telkom?

Basically what it means is,

you keep your phone/tel line with telkom active,
you just cancel the ADSL line part with telkom, and then you sign up for the ADSL line part with the ISP.

As Telkom, you will also wait the period between 4 - 6 weeks for activation, however you as client do not have to deal directly with them in this regard. We as the ISP take over that function and relieve you little headache as far as this process is concerned.

The pricing is really the difference and also hopefully the wait times will reduces :)

Hope this helps a bit

Don't you thin it's a bit retarded to cancel it and then have to wait all over again for activation? Surely there must be a sort of "fixed line portability" thing that'll just give WA control over the ADSL part.

I entirely agree with you on that Feo, but unfortunately for now that's how we'll have to stick it out. Hopefully in the near future they may introduce something like that, but for now, yes benefit more lies with new subscribers as far as waiting periods go, as understandably it would be a hassle to wait all over again.

Hopefully your idea gets heard!

Regards

I still don't understand how this works EXACTLY.

When I was waiting for my line to be activated I was told that all the techie needed to do was adjust some jumpers. Now when moving to WA for the ADSL part does Telkom undo the jumpers to how it was when you didn't have ADSL and then you wait 2 weeks to have Telkom readjust it again:confused:?

Sorry I'm a bit noobish but I'm sure tons of people would love to switch to WA (myself included) but it's really not worth the 2 weeks waiting time.

What they don't tell u , is to Downgrade your phone to A normal phoneline is gonna cost you R270+- :>>>

I'm pretty sure they cant charge you for cancelling your adsl service. You're not downgrading (which does cost R270 i think), your cancelling it altogether.

Telkom are deliberately trying to make it hard for people to move to other isp's. They are forcing clients to cancel their adsl, and dont gaurentee that you'll get your adsl port back once your new isp applies on your behalf. disgusting
