Hi,

This is my first time working with ADSL. I've got a network of 6 pc's and a Netgear 602 modem. I would like to know what/how to setup the ADSL so that all the pc would be able to connect to the internet. Will it work if the modem connects via Ethernet to the hub, must you setup a proxy....?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Michael

Hi there.

I am using ADSL on a network ... download the "Analog X" proxy.. it helps with FTP, POP3, HTTP & NNTP sharing over the network.

It works like a charm and does not use that many resources, so running it in the background does not matter.

Tested on Windows 2000 & currently running on Win 98. Works 100%.

Download from here: http://www.analogx.com (PROXY)

IF you have a modem with Ethernet plug, I can almost assure you that it will be able to do NAT. Then basically, all you have to do, is plug the ethernet port into the hub, tell all the PC's with TCP/IP to AUTOMATICALLY obtain IP's, and tell the router to give out IP addresses on DHCP. You should find how to do this in your modem's manual.

The only time when you need to set up a proxy, is when you only have a modem with no Ethernet plug or NAT support. And even then I would NEVER recommend using proxies, since it limits the number of things you can do with your network. Rather install a NAT server. (Like Winroute Lite - its freeware).
