Hi All

Over the past while my ADSL line has become terrible in the evening. I have tried everything and posted numerous times here. Ultimately its due to congestion at my exchange. Is this something that is being addressed by Telkom or will we have to just accept that this is as good as it gets?

Its getiing to the point that I would love to find alternate broadband offering but am in a poor 3g area so I am only left with fibre ( which is not available at present ).

does Telkom ever upgrade specific exchanges with problems?

In time yes or if theres a planned maintenance request.

Whats your number? I'll check for you.

I have a similar issue. I cannot confirm if it's congestion - I was told by Telkom my line wasn't congested, but then again the same person told me it was backbone congestion which I find utterly ridiculous considering I had tested my line on numerous different ISPs and the problem has persisted for over three weeks - but my pings and packet loss soar in the evenings/nights (consistently over 600ms from the second hop on traceroute).

RazedInBlack could you offer any insight?

1. Edit your post and remove your number from the forum.

2. Can you run a WinMTR or Pathping during these high latency times and post the results here so we can have a look at them to see where abouts the problem is coming in on your end.

1. Done. It's still shown in your quote.
2. Will do later, it starts deteriorating towards and beyond 5pm.

This is the first time I've run either, so let me know if I did something incorrectly (used mybroadband.co.za as the site)...

Ahh, There we go.

Second hop on WinMTR (your exchange)

105.236.2.193 2 35 % 131 85 9 206 977 0

average response time - 206 ms. 35% packet loss - Pretty terrible.

On the Pathping, Second hop:

2 537ms 5/ 100 = 5% 5/ 100 = 5% 105.236.2.193
0/ 100 = 0% |

537ms and 5% packet loss at exchange level.
