Hi all. We recently decided to get uncapped ADSL, but can't seem to connect to the internet possibly to a connection error. Our modem (TP-LINK model TD-W8961N) doesn't sync at all (no stable ADSL light/flashing). Our landline (the black wire) splits into two parts when enter our home: one line going into our alarm system, the other one goes straight to the telephone wall jack. Our telephone works 100% when either plugged directly into the wall jack, or when used with the splitter that came in the modem box. Our modem settings shows the ADSL line is down either way you connect it (direct from the wall jack/splitter) Our ISP (Axxess) confirms the modem is not syncing and Telkom confirmed that the ADSL line is active. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Also please ask if more info is needed. Thanks

Did you put a splitter going to the alarm?

Splitters must be put on all connected devices (phones etc).

The thing is that our line to the telephone breaks completely away from the alarm. It comes in our home, splits there with one wire going into the alarm and the other runs through to the wall jack.

Any way you can get alarm company to install a RF transmitter instead of using the phone line?

We activate the alarm with a remote control. And my father keeps it through the phone line for the insurance. If I can convince him to get a RF transmitter, what difference will it make to the landline and alarm?

I have a hunch the alarm is preventing the ADSL from syncing, I could be wrong so lets let some others voice their opinions.

If you lift the phone do you hear lots of noise or is it normal?

Also are the settings correct on the router?

The telephone works normal with the modem plugged in aswell. No noise when picking up phone and no noise when actually calling. The router settings/setup was done with the help of Axxess technical support.

It's the self install. We let Axxess handle our ADSL line from Telkom (ADSL combo)

The best way is to isolate the alarm from the line and plug only the modem on the line, if you can't do that then you have to report a fault.

Be aware of the unnecessary dispatch charge that will apply should Telkom dispatch a tech only to find that there is no fault on the line, a modem, telephone, filters or your alarm system are your responsibility to test and make sure they are not affecting your service.

We just tried splitting the cable that runs through the alarm. The alarm has no problem, but there is still no ADSL light. Then we tried bypassing the alarm completely and plugged the cable going into the alarm directly into the modem. The alarm shows there is 'trouble', and yet no ADSL light.

Then you need to log a fault with Telkom.
