Adsl Costs

I was reading this topic:

And have come across the following:

ADSL subscription (Telkom, DSL 384) R 152 p/m
Line rental (Telkom) R 120 p/m
ISP subscription (WebAfrica, 1GB cap) R 70 p/m
Total: R 342 p/m

Wtf is subscription? I thought line rental was the adsl line rental/subscription?

Do you pay for both regardless of your ISP etc?

To have ADSL on you line you need the following:

* Bandwidth - R70 ( Web Africa )

* Telkom ADSL 'Conversion cost' p/m - R152 ( Telkom )

* Telkom Telephone 'Line Rental' that needs conversion to ADSL monthly - R120 ( this is also payed to Telkom, this also gives you the ability to make phone calls )

Thats the break down.

Web Africa Currently has a special you should look at if you are considering an all in one package for R149 for the first 6 months. No contract with that.

In short, NO. It's telkom!!!

Think is, Your link to ADSL is your telephone line. So u must have a phoneline to start off with. that is your R110 (its not R120)

Then u have a phoneline,

384K DSL is R152
512K DSL is R324
upto 4096K DSL is R413

Then your ISP is R70 per gig if u choose Mweb or Axxess for international data.
or Openweb has 2gig international+28gig local for R159
but there are alot of ISP's.

At the end of it all , The bill is R110+R152(in the case of 384K DSL)+ISP = Total Bill

Think is, Your link to ADSL is your telephone line. So u must have a phoneline to start off with. that is your R110 (its not R120)

Yeah but in essence you're paying twice for the same piece of copper.

Exactly Paul_S, but we stillwaiting for ICASA to smack Telkom on the knouckles for doing that...
