I have just had my ADSL installed, yesterday, using on of the Telkom Ethernet routers.

Everything is fine for about 10-15 minutes, everything stops, cannot even ping the router.
After resetting (using the power switch) everything is fine again, but all grinds to a halt after 10-15 minutes again.

b.t.w. The firmware on the router is current

Any ideas????

UPDATE:
Just received my DLink 504G on Thursday, works like a charm, no disconnects since Friday.

Mmm, What router are you using?
If it's your own, remember that not all are completely compatible with Telkom Adsl. Also have a look at your settings, obviously your VPI = 8 & VCI = 35, but I know that in the UK we had 15 min disconnects because of the MTU Size, having it at 1492 works fine here.

Try another router/modem on your line.

Have you made sure that you have your microfilter correctly installed, and that you have a microfilter on every extension that is connected to the same phone line as the ADSL?

Sounds like the same problem I'm having with my D-Link DSL-504G.

we had the same problem and Telkom could not solve the problem (Isssh - the techie was not the sharpest toll in the shed). We then tried a Planet ADSL router and we have not had the line drop once in the last two months.

I have spoken to Nick at D-Link and have found out that there are certain models of the 504G that are not compatible with Telkom ADSL.

The 504G will shortly be replaced by the 504T.

I say this again DO NOT BUY a 504G!

Dear All

Yes, this is correct. We're are thinking of replacing the DSL-504G with the DSL-504T because of extreme difficulty with TELKOM. The G-series uses the Atheros chipset which tends to give trouble the last month. Something changed and nobody at Telkom is co-operative. The T-series uses the Texas Instrument chipset which cooks GAS. This is the most stablest device on the ADSL market :). I've tested it.
Also don't be afraid to lay your hands on a DSL-504G in the mean time, the problem only occured in Durban.

Nick

Hi All,

I had a problem with a Dlink 504G which would hang at least once a day.
This was swopped for a 504T.

It shows the adsl link connected but I can not get to the internet.
I think it is a routing issue but can not find it in all the
new setting options.

Any one out there have setup instructions for Telkom?

Thanks a lot,

Craig.

Please help

I have a DSL-504T router and I am getting a similar problem to some of the guys on this thread. My connection is awsome (after waiting for ages for telkem to get their act together) however when I connect to an outside app like msn, warcraft 3 or guild wars my connection seems to go bang after about 10 mins.

I have the latest firmware and am pretty sure that my settings are correct on my router.

I was thinking of putting in a network card as I am using an onboard card. Will test friends hub too. Anyone have any idea what could be causing it.

This is really annoying to finally get adsl and to not be able to play a full game of dota. Please help :p
