The last two weeks my modem router has been disconnecting and the adsl light flashing, it first happened when it was really hot here in dbn two weekends ago, i thought it was a heat issue, i thought i had solved it by turning the modem on its side, it happened again this weekend and now on not such a hot day its at it again, ive phoned telkom and they dropped my line from 4mb/s to 3mb/s, and it disconnected again flashing same thing again, so now telkom have dropped the line to 2mb/s, im praying that its my modem, that its old, 2007 d link 2540T, and not my line because 2mb/s is just not fast enough, it was working fine with 4mb/s before, i have a spare modem but it doesnt have a bloody power chord:(

If you have a normal power cord you can easily convert it into a bloody power cord...

I'm hoping for your sake that its the router and not the line. The one is easy to fix, the other one not.

lol, so 2mb/s failed as well which is sorta good news, im must just test for a day or two on another modem/router and see if it happens again, if it does then fek its the line 100%

It does sound like the modem. D-Links are not well made. The capacitors tend to go after a while + the power supply they admit is a weak point.

What model is the spare?

Also... borrow a known good line filter from somewhere.

Folks' line exhibited the same type of symptoms. New filter from Makro and it's sorted...

So after having a completely normal line and connection all at 4mb/s, my line is now fkd, disconnects all the time, and some times takes an hour to get a line again, i tried with a brand new modem and its stil fkd, my only option is to MOVE AGAIN - i have just moved here on dec 16, i dont see much point going through the telkom bs, waiting a month for them to attend the issue to have them send some moron round to tell me what i know already, i am sick to death of telkom and its inability to get anything fkn right!!!
Ive read in other posts that youre pretty much ****ed if you have a fault on your line, its either accept the pathetic service or leave it, and i refuse to pay for a product that is broken.

No not yet, i am flat broke, i know they are only R50, but if i had R50 now it would be for bread and milk.

For ADSL problems you don't need a filter provided that NO analogue devices are connected to the phone line.

That means, NO phone, burgler alarm, fax, answer machine.

So test your modem with it plugged directly into the phone line and no oter devices connected.

#fail for me at not stating the obvious... :o

Woke up today to see modem flashing, now it happens alot, all times of the day repeatedly, and all i have from telkom is an sms saying its been logged as a fault, im phoning them as soon as they are open to let them know if this isnt sorted out today or on monday, then they can cancel my account, ive never experienced such a faulty product in my life.
