We have a D-link 2750 Router, now there are 2 lights -

1 - The synchronisation light
2 - The internet light.

The internet light drops constantly 5 times or more a day. (While the synchronisation light stays on)
If i remove adsl cable and re-insert - it comes up again.
or
If i reboot router - it also continues to work.

I have phoned telkom, they have "refreshed" the port on their side, still continues to drop.

Any idea what this is and what to tell telkom to do to fix it properly? Assign a New Port maybe?

Any help would be appreciated.

Get your ISP to check the logs - Find out why it is dropping. Then take that info to Telkom. The more ammunition you have the better.

Had the same issue. Waiting for Netgear routers to become available. What I did find helped was if did a factory reset and then re entered my username and password. This would keep the internet up for 2-3 days. Eventually, tired of doing this, decided to use an old Netgear modem we had back in 2010, whilst not the best I dont have to deal with the DLink.

*Edit* The modem has been replaced for 3 Dlink modems (as they all gave the same issues).

Exchange compatibility with routers is a myth in my eyes, i will personally have to see it to believe it.

when I had constant disconnects it was the POTS filter by the wall socket. was busted. got another one and its golden again. check the filter.

More than welcome too :) I have the Dlink on as it somehow boosts the signal to the rest of the house, the Netgear has the ADSL line plugged in. Don't ask me why this works or how it works, all I know is it works :)
