Hi. My ADSL is being fitted soon, but I have a few questions. Firstly, I ordered ADSL back in 2002. The techie came to my house and said everything was fine, I could get ADSL (Something like 1Mbps max download rate). Unfortunately, a few weeks later I got a call from Telkom. They said something was wrong with my exchange (Or my connection, can't remember) and I couldn't get ADSL. Does anyone know what this might have been? I was under the impression that the line test determines whether or not you can get ADSL.

Now, I have ordered ADSL again, but I am worried about the distance. I live very close to the Hyde Park shopping center, my exchange is in Rosebank (RRBA right?). According to my estimates, this is about 4Km (As the crow flies, I have no idea how long the circuit is).
Is this too far?
Also, is Imaginet any good as an ISP?

Thanks.

I'm close to you in the Parkhurst area, in which there are a number of ADSL users as well as in Greenside, Parktown North and Rosebank, all of whom use the Rosebank exchange. Hyde Park, Dunkeld West and Craighall are all fed off this exchange as far as I know, so you should have no problem if the required DSLAM ports/circuits have been provided. I think you were fed a load of BS earlier - just an excuse for them to gain additional time to get their act together... [:(!] Can't comment on Imaginet - I use Telkom [}:)][:(!]

i use Imaginet, their quite good ...but still capped :-(

Ok, well, I phoned Telkom and they said the distance Limits for both ADSL and ISDN are 3.5Km. So am I correct in assuming that seeing as I already have ISDN, I can get ADSL (From a distance perspective).

It is actually 5.5 km for ADSL

And I suppose the reason for you not getting ADSL the first time round, was because your exchange perhaps had a fibre optic connection and not copper cabling. If I remember correctly, the backbone of your exchange should be running on copper.
