Anyone else experiencing the following:

My Router is connected but I cannot browse. I can't resolve any domain names could be a DNS problem?

Router lists 196.25.255.34 and 196.25.255.3 as DNS servers. Using the Ping utility in the router (Netgear DG834) I cant ping either of these servers.

Dial up is with saol.com

Any help?

Thanks.

Yep

Started about 4 o'clock. Can get to some sites now but very slow.

Had the same issues last night. I checked with friends in Northcliff and Newlands, and they were happily surfing the net. I then pointed my DNS server at the UUNet servers, and that worked fine for me. No web access, but Skype, ICQ and YIM signed in. MSN was dead.

This morning they were unreachable, and when I pointed back to SAIX's servers, they worked again. Somewhat. At least with any entries with a TTL of 24 hours.

However, today I can't access anything, over any protocol. Except, strangely, for this site, and telkom's web page ...

After only 15 minutes on the line to Telkom (new record - it's usually longer when I complain), I was told there's a cable break in Durban causing the problems.

So a failure that causes a 16+ hour outage for a large section of the user base (judging by other threads today) is not planned for by a telco. And of course there's no redundant circuits you can switch to in the event of a failure.

Way to go, Telkom.
