My ADSL line went down in the first week of September. I have had multiple Telkom "techncians" over since then. They've pretty much concluded that it's got nothing to do with my line, but the problem is at the exchange. Then I have been told about four times that my internet will be up within an hour.

This is obviously bull, since I'm still without internet and it's been over a week since the last visit.

Is there anything I can do? Our money is being wasted on this line and every Telkom technician that comes is blatantly incompetent. It doesn't help that there's a new technician each time since they keep doing exactly what the last one did.

I've considered getting iBurst instead, but I don't think that it quite suits my internet usage needs. On the other hand, iBurst is actually working while ADSL is not, so I would at least be getting my money's worth.

Cana nyone give me any recommendations on this? It's really been going on for too long, but I feel powerless to change it.

Telkom has suggested I go on to Wimax. I think that's ridiculous. I've had an ADSL line since November 2006 and now it's stopped working. It's not like I'm in some area without ADSL availability. If I had wanted wireless internet in the first place, I would have just gone for iBurst. For some reason I just don't trust wireless internet - although I guess I should after the experiences with a line.

I have two 3gb accounts and somehow one was "cancelled" last month. Very convenient, isn't it? I think you can only get a refund on the internet account and not the line rental, which is bull in my opinion. It's pretty evident that we haven't been able to use the line what with having gone through about 9 Telkom technicians.

Alas, this does not solve the distinct problem of my internet actually being fixed.

Man I hate stories like this :(

Sorry to hear about your troubles hatefulsandwich.

I don't know if this will help. But about a month or so ago our line went down due to a cable break. I love the internet and it's almost the only thing I use which can be called a luxury.

Anyways, I went to a telkom shop and explained my story, the lady gave me the telkom technician departments telephone number which is in our town. I phoned them with no answer, so I went there. I spoke to the guy in charge and he said my problem doesn't show on his system (as I was suppose to report it to 0800 375 375, which I did).

A day later, they sent someone out and it was fixed.

The pro I had, was that we live on a line which caters for about 6 other houses, it's in a straight path, so they had to fix it.

My advice is to drive around in your area or suburb and look for the place where all the telkom bakkies are located, this is where the technicians hang around while they work and wait for work.

Explain your story to the guy that's in charge and hopefully he'll send someone out.

Holding thumbs for you ;)
