ADSL Down

IS Login

I have re-entered the login and password a few times already. The point is it works at Duxbury and my office as is, no retyping required......

I have had exactly the same problems with the same router. I took the router the Duxbury and there is nothing wrong with it. What I have found is that it is almost as though the settings are not being accepted correctly. I have to retype the account details and more specifically the password and apply it again. After I have done this it connects within a minute.

The only reason why I tried this is I have a number of different accounts. One with SAIX and others through IS. The IS accounts seem to have this problem. It is resolved each time by retyping the password.

It is now a week since my ADSL is down and 3 days since I heard from Telkom....

Do I get a 25% discount?

i have the same problem. on wednesday night around 21:00 my line went down. telkom tried moving me to another port on the dslam and said "we've fixed it" (only found out afterwards that was all they did). yesterday a techie came out. plugged his standard telkom adsl modem in, worked perfectly. mine still stops at trying to bring lcp up. i was previously running the beta 2.10.22 code (loads of awesome new features). today i tried downgrading to the standard 1.05 code, still same problem. there's no phone/splitter connected anywhere.

Where are you located? Do you know which exchange you connect to?

Where did you get beta 2.10.22?

Which NetGear?

Which Netgear do you have? Mine is a DG834GT. I see beta 2.10.22 is for a DG834V2. What is the diff?

A bit OT, but...
I see in the Wireless Settings section of the Netgear DG834GT config, there is a tickable option that says Atheros eXtended Range (XR).

I did a bit of a google on it, but couldn't work out whether you have to have a compatible Atheros chipset on whatever is connecting to the Netgear router, or if it boosts range for all cards?

Any ideas?
Cheers, Nick

Each wireless chipset manufacturer did their own "Super" G 108Mbps implementation ... incompatible with each other.

"Atheros's Super G technology comprises three parts, only one of which is at issue. One element is frame bursting, in which the shorter packets designed for the slower 802.11b network are rebuilt into longer packets that can dramatically increase network efficiency, according to Barratt. All major Wi-Fi chipmakers are offering frame bursting, which is an element in the upcoming 802.11e standard for improving multimedia streaming and voice over IP service.

Super G also includes an element of compression in which two Atheros adapters use lossless methods to compress redundant data, Barratt says. Because frame bursting rewrites packets into a mode that any 802.11b or 802.11g device can receive, and compression is used only when available in both a gateway and an adapter, neither of these elements have any impact on devices using chips from other manufacturers.

Turbo, the third component of Super G, requires some engineering cleverness, however, that directly affects other devices, although the scale of this effect is the matter in dispute.

In the 2.4-gigahertz frequency band allotted for unlicensed use in the United States, the 802.11b and 802.11g standards have 11 channels, which are staggered and overlap. The Turbo mode of Super G uses channels 5 and 6 simultaneously to achieve its double speed, according to Barratt. That should leave channel 1 almost entirely and channel 11 clearly out of contention for the same frequencies."

Guess what....

Came home this afternoon and my ADSL was working! I can only guess that Telkom have done some magic in the background.

Can I claim a discount for the 9 days I was without service?

Thanks to all who helped..... :) .
