Hi guys..

I have a 4MB line (yehh rite) at my residence , evrything works perfect until thers a hint of a highveld thunderstorm , ie gathering of clouds and slight thunder , and then the thing just stops working.

Any clue as to why this is happening ?

When i called Hellkom , the tecnician said its because im using the wireless LAN and because im close to the Auckland Park Sentech tower , its affecting the signal strength ,as there are whole lotta signals going around here, which i dont buy.

Any ideas ?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem.
If I can hear a storm brewing in the distance, however small, I know my adsl will cut off anytime soon and its been like that since installation in 2003.
Telkom has been out several times, changed the cable to the pole, changed the cable from the pole to the box down the road, then even rerouted the cable as it used to go 2 kms around the block to the box and now only goes 70 meters and yet it still disappears in bad weather.

I'm glad too that im not the only 1 with this problem. When it rains I get disconnected continuesly from the internet. then I need to restart my router just to after 5 mindo it again coz it disconnected again

Its actually quite weird... is it possible that the junction boxes / exchanges are not connected via cable, but rather satellite or something wireless , thereby cutting off the signal in thick cloud?

The disappointing thing is that , this is ADSL , the most superior form of connecting to the internet in this fair land , so if this does not work , what then ?

My ISP told me that the exange gets damp during rain if they are not properly sealed. Im not sure how true this is but it sounds possible. They said it causes it to make a small spak and if you where on a phone call even that call will be disconnected and if you have adsl it will be disconnected aswell. But im not sure how rue this is.

Question - after your adsl stops working - can u ping and log in to the router? I have a feeling the router might be locking up due to a power spike or dip in which case a UPS is required for the router.

I installed a UPS and it solved the locking up..... on a Mega 100wr router

Yes I can log in to my router and under status it just says not connected with a red dot

I dont use a router, but a Microcom USB modem and the 'online' led flashes when the line dissapears and thats what happens.

I get the exact same problem. Telkom has been out, said it was my router. I borrowed a router and it still did the same. Now they don't know what it is. Give tons of excuses of course. I gave up.

Pretty sure its moisture, I had exactly the same problem. Logged thousands of calls, and everytime idiot and he's brother came out, and fixed nothing.

Until one day a technician that actually knows something came out, and told me its moisture in the exchange, dont know what he did, but he fixed it

I have the same problem, but the interesting thing is that it only started happening a few months ago when my line port number changed. I have no idea why it changed, but it did, and ever since then any thunder or even a light drizzle disconnects the adsl. Its absolutely nothing to do with wifi or even my router, as i dont use wifi and tried 3 different routers.
I've complained a few times, they techies came out said its fixed, at the sign of the next storm it was out again... I have officially given up
