adsl drops line

Hope this is the correct place to post this.
Got a desktop and laptop on the same adsl modem on the same isp.
The desktop every now and then drops the connection and redail's again [bridge mode] but the latop goes on.
Some times this happen every 5 minutes or every 2hours and sometimes not.

Now wondering, seems the fault lies on the desktop.
desktop and laptop same OS, win xp.
I know the lan card is realtek.

Any ideas please.

My desktop (back when Vista was around) did that too on ocassion - if I were to leave it idling it just kicked the connection (minimum 20min idle).... but on Linux, same machine, it works fine. On my laptop however, no issues.
Settings were set to never disconnect, etc etc.
Up to now I haven't been able to find a proper reason as to why it does this.
