Hi

I have 4mbit adsl and the problem seems to be that it drops the whole time. Now from what I can see on the router stats my SNR margin fluctuates depending on the time of the day. This only started happening recently. For example sometimes its steady at 22dB and other times it just goes crazy between 10 and -8 dB.

Anyone have any idea whats going? Should I just call telkom and give them a mouthful? I did this previously and according to them they fixed the line. :(

Yes its a telkom fault with ur line, phone them and log a fault.

Warning thow, I have heard they often drop 4mb lines to 1mb with no price reduction when customers log dropping line faults.

Sumthing to do with syncing speed.

I wanna puke on telkom Multichoice and all Monoplies in this crap country

Yes, they did it to me. Dropped my 4mb line to 1mb after it kept on disconnecting... In the end I had to report my 1mb line also dropping, and only then they sent out a technician to fix the line..

Keep your cell phone and microwave away form your telephone line .. :D

You could have a crossed line ... picjk up the phone and listern to it ... does it snap / crackle / pop at the bad times?

You could have a loose connection being aggravated by a tree or similar ... what are the weather conditions during the bad times?

Or ... perhaps your neighbor is sticking his GPRS modem onto his telephone line, and whenever he connects, you get the interference ...

Heh ok, I phoned telkom a few weeks back. Logged a fault. They dropped it to 3mbit, still broken. So they upped it to 4mbit again and sent out a techie. He then says the line is fixed. Although I doubt he did anything. I'll just do the same again. I've had ADSL now for three years at the same place and it only started happening after my line at the exchange physically broke. So they probably didnt fix it properly.

something's creating noise, which breaks the SNR margin. doesnt sound like there's a problem with the line itself, but check that it isnt next to an AC power lead or other similar noise-generating source. Mine runs over an electric fence but that doesn't seem to cause any problems for me.
Hope you get it sorted out!

I am having the very same problem, My line drops about 20 times a day! At least thats what Mweb says, Called Telkom they dropped my line speedto 3MB, didn't help at all, I asked them to put it back to 4MB so atleast when I am connected its a lil faster :?
Still waiting on a techie though...

Well it seems to be stable. It really is random. Very irritating.

i get it that 2, not so often.... moved sub woofer away from telephone line... h3h3h3
