Hi guys
I need help or explaining... Not sure which one of the two.
First I will explain what has happened and where my confusion comes in.
Now when we received the free speed upgrades last year my line was upgraded from a 2mbps to 4mbps and all of a sudden my ADSL was unstable as hell.
After this happened a Telkom technician was called out to check if everything was fine at our home with the filters etc. He did not find any faults and told me he will have to go fix the error at the exchange itself as the fault was not at my side. About 20 minutes later after the technician left I received a SMS notification informing me the fault was fixed.
Now, the problem was not fixed and my ADSL still was not stable. I phoned the following day and asked them to downgrade my line back to a 2mbps and after the downgrade my line was stable again.
So a few months later I got the pleasure of meeting one of the guys working in the exchange center and he asked me how far I live from the exchange. I told him it’s about 1.2km and he informed me that if my distance of 1.2km is accurate I should be able to easily sync at 4mbps without any issues.
So now comes the part that I would like to understand or get an answer to:
Is 1.2km close enough to be hassle free as stated by the Telkom employee? What else can cause the fault to my line being unstable? Is it possible that the cabling connected from outside to my house has a problem? If this can be the problem how do I get Telkom to test this theory without billing me a call out fee?
If anyone of the experts here on the MyBB forum can give me some advise I would greatly appreciate it.
Kind regards
