Im in the process of getting ADSL lines however Telkom have come back to me stating that the exchange is full and no more ports are available.

Does anyone know how long it takes for them to allocate more ports?

If anyone knows of a contact on how to get this sorted out can you please PM me?

I had the same thing when i initially signed up for ADSL, I waited 3 months. Was worth the wait though :D

BTW-I first got ADSL 4 years ago, so maybe things have improved since then, for your sake I hope so.

I was also told there where no ports availabe and I should wait for someone with adsl to "die" first, then I'd be first in line - lucky I just had to wait a couple of weeks and a port became available :)

Hey..........it's a dangerous country

I don't think it matters really. If there aren't any ports then there aren't. You're just going to have to wait...be patient, it will be worth it.

Provision of additional ports are based on demand. Telkom try to keep about 10% ports available for provision and redundancy purposes, this is obviously not always the case due to whatever reasons.

I impatiently waited for 3 months only to be told after that I must wait another two. After four months I got an sms saying my port has been assigned. Been online a while now and it's like the agonising wait never happened. :)

The 10% is for maintenance purposes, not provisioning...

I was also told no ports....but the system they use to query is very confusing...The very next day, just to check, I went in and asked a different person the same question. "Oh, theres 182 ports free!!!"
2 Days later my ADSL was in! :-)

I phoned up Telkom as well, and the first said there are no port available. And she said I should try again in a month or 2. I thought is was BS. So I phoned up again the next day and got a different person. They gave me a completely different story, and setup an installation date and converted my line already to ADSL.

Basically I think it's just someone doesn't want to do their work.

So my advise....keep phoning until someone doesn't give you that "all the ports are full" story.

Tried that... it seems to have worked.

Apparently I will have line installed later on this month *Holds Thumbs*
