ADSL filter or splitter

What are the symptons when ADSL filter or splitter fails.
What will you notice.

But in terms of quality and effectiveness is a filter better than a splitter?

Normally if the phone rings or gets answered the line would Disconnect.

But noise on the actual phone line is also a very good sign that it's gone.

A splitter does nothing but split 1 port into two.

However most splitters for ADSL modems these days have the filter built into the telephone line part.


In case anyone is also confused the filter needs to go on the PHONE, not on the modem....and also on each and every analog phone not just one of them.
