ADSL fix to DNS server - maybe this will help someone

Hi,

I am in Grahamstown, and have a Telkom/Vox ADSL line, which was installed about 2 mths ago.

Almost everyday, it would disconnect, maybe 3 times a day, and the router would re-boot - taking, maybe 2 mins.

Its was annoying, but I never reported the fault.

3 days ago, during the reboot, it never rebooted (the internet light on the router stayed red).

So, I reported a line sync problem, and about 6 hrs later, the light changed to green.

When I tried to connect to the internet, I got this error msg :

DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_BAD_CONFIG error


So, I searched around, and found this fix :

control panel;
network and sharing;
click ur internet connection;
properties;
find Ipv4 and click it and then its properties button;
use the following dns server adresses;
preferred dns server 8.8.8.8
alt dns server 8.8.4.4


By changing the preferred DNS server, it worked immediately, .. and in the last 3 days, the router has never re-booted.

Does anyone know if this was just a coincidence ? or, does changing the DNS server, help connectivity ?
