ADSL for gaming on local servers

Hey guys

Jeez, its me again!! Its been a while since my first thread about this crap line i got in my flat and ive made piece with the fact that its not good enough no matter what i do. So ive decided to go ahead and put in an ADSL line. But im a poor student so i wanted to know if the 192K ADSL is good enough for local servers (mostly UT 2004). Luckily cap doesnt matter(or does it??) when playing online on a local server. So the cheapest option for the best pings will do. Any advice??

playing locally capped or uncapped, makes no difference.

ya, ive heard it to do quite nicely on local servers! Anways you alwayz should try play on local servers, cause no matter what connection you have the moment you try international, latency becomes an issue.

Thats good to know, but can anyone tell me about isp's etc?? Is R225 the cheapest isp i can get.

Yeah, 384k is at the moment the best value for money in South Africa

Please refresh my memory quick, what connection are you using at the moment to download at 25k?

Dude, if u read the later gaming forums you will see that we have been struggling for the past 4 months to try and figure out what connection i have, out of a million attempts trying to speak to the admin who doesnt know much, he said that it is a 256K leased line that is been shared between 4 people, im just as confused as you.Its pretty much any time after 9 in the evening that the download speed picks up, but even then i get pings of 988 on UT??

Your ping which is important for online gaming is mainly determined by the upload speed and not so much about the download...

upload speed is always significantly less than the download one...

that's why 56k connection gives you high pings...on a ADSL connection or even ISDN as long as you have 5-10k uninterrupted upload speed you should be fine....

ya but what if those ppl on your line are downloading all night?

why not close everything open the connection box and see how fast its moving if it isnt moving then you have problems

Ye thats more than likely the reason Gohan, people sharing the connection are taking up all the bandwidth.
