Hi everyone

I am new to this forum so I apologies if this is posted in the incorrect place.
I applied for adsl line on September 24th 2016, technicians arrived a few days later to install the line but told me that a cable at the exchange has to be repaired.
2 weeks later I received an sms stating that a technician has been dispatched to install the line as he fault was repaired. No technician arrived after I took the day off work to stay home.
After numerous call to the telkom call center I was told that the last time anyone has looked into the line installation was the 2nd of November, it is now January and I still do not have an internet line.
I live in Pietermaritzburg, oak park..
Could anyone please give me any advice on what I can do.
much appreciated.

These days Twitter is the best channel to get proper assistance from Telkom. Pop them a DM, with the reference number you were issued, for the installation. Also had a delay in my install, was due to infrastructure issues - was not getting feedback either....as their network dept was not updating the fault....once, I got someone to look into the matter, beyond the "what the system is saying" ...install was processed and done. Good Luck!

No its not. They are clueless.

Telkom does not care and will take their own sweet time to fix the problem. I have been having slow ADSL speed since before 25 December 2016. Logged a fault on the 28/12/2016 and to date nothing has been done. I ranted on Twitter and nothing. It seems they are ignoring me now. Come the end of the month and they expect you to pay for non service delivery. Even calling the call centre is not helping. Everything on their side is working but not at your house. They will dispatch a technician but they will tell you that if the problem is on your side then you'll have to pay for the call out. It is so frustrating. Tell them you want to cancel you contract due to non service and see how quickly they fix it.

I have tried to social media route, a random will just respond with a sincere apology and an empty promise that the fault is now high priority. Thankfully there is no line installed yet for them to bill me but they do have a R700 deposit.. I am fighting with an invisible person with this issue.

Social media won't help much. I've had ADSL problems since 10 November 2016. Logged fault on the 10th and problems was only partially fixed 3 weeks later. The telephone pole and main cable, including box on pole, had to be replaced. But since then my SNR took a big dive. So ASSIA kicks in and my 10Mbps line is now fluctuating between a 2Mbps line and a 6Mbps line. Did not have any problems in the three years before they "repaired" it. Rock solid 10Mbps speeds, with SNR in the high 20's.

I actually tried all avenues: Twitter, Hellopeter, Facebook, etc. I got some help from TelkomZA on this forum. It takes a while for them to answer your PM but they do respond (well they did in my case). TelkomZA actually tries to use his/her connections to help out, if possible.

When you phone their callcentre or even their social media teams, all they can do is escalate it, maybe bump you up in the line somehow. I am actually having problems again; logged fault again on 03 January. It's been a week and all I get out of Telkom is "We will escalate it" or "We will arrange a technician". I've got a feeling there just is not enough technicians to do the work. Probably looking at 3 weeks again

Only since 25 December 2016? I've tried since December 2015 and have given up. On a 4Mbps line I'm getting around only 1 Mbps on a lucky day. This evening its a whopping 0.125 Mbps, waited 5 min just to login to my ISP portal. Downgraded from a capped account of 200Gb to 150Gb, then again to 100 Gb and I still barely use 50% of the data in a month because it's so slow. Been through all channels of communication and all completely fruitless. Telkom like many other state parastatals and companies in this dump are the worst of the worst.
