Hi
wonder if anyone can help? I have a small office network linked to an adsl router. The network seems to be working fine (the two computers share a printer and files) but only one of the computers can access the Internet. The other has no connectivity at all and whatever I've tried has failed.
Any ideas?

You sure all the network settings are correct on the machine that cannot connect? Try make sure you have set the IP to autoassign, and the DNS server to autoassign

(If your router is providing DHCP which, iirc, it does by default.)

Hi sketch. What have you tried? I assume you have your IP addresses correct or the router is running DHCP? Have you tried connecting the "dud" computer to a different port? Are you happy with the "dud" one's TCP/IP config i.e. is it similar to the working one with the same gateway address and dns servers? What is the symptom when you try to load a page on the "dud"? Can you ping the router and other PC from the "dud"? Have you run the Network Setup Wizard correctly from it ( XP I assume?, and if you don't run this XP gets recalcitrant about networking in my limited exp! )?

Last time I came across this problem, it was as follows:

Router set to DHCP
Both PCs set to DHCP
PCs can communicate with each other, since they have the same ip range (10.1.1.1 and 10.1.1.2 for eg).
Problem was, one PC had internet, the other did not.
Why? The PC that had internet was dialing up using the router in bridge mode.

If this seems to be your problem, tell us here, and we can assist.
