When signing up for an ADSL line there are a number of things to note:

  • In South African you need both an ADSL line (provided by Telkom) which is your high speed connection as well as an ISP account which provides you actual internet
  • Whether or not you can get ADSL depends on the area you live in
  • You will need extra hardware

Steps

Please note that these steps are intended simply as a guide and the actual process my vary

The basic steps when applying for an ADSL line are as follows:

Check that your exchange is ADSL enabled either on Telkom's website[1] or by calling 10219 - or both

Decide on your line type (DSL Up to 384kbps, DSL Up to 512kbps, DSL Up to 4096Kbps)

Order you line either at a Telkom shop, on Telkom's website or from 10219 or 0800 456 786
Buy an ADSL modem or router depending on your need

Once you line is installed order you ISP account and configure your modem or router to use it
