The router does the dial up for me, i just connect to the router via LAN, i don't dial up from my pc.

So i set the primary DNS server as my routers IP address under LAN settings.

The solution to this is fairly simple to figure out...I usually follow these steps to see if it is my problem or the service privders.

1. Check my wiring at home for bad connections.
2. Have the line tested and service reset/re-created by support staff.
3. Check with a spare router if it still happens. (router could have been damaged by power surges or lightning)
4. Once this is all done and the problem still persists you can have a cable or exchange port problem.

The ports on the DSLAM in the exchange can go faulty from time to time and then your service needs to be moved but that is almost the last resort from Telkom's side. There can also be a dry joint along your cable route that will cause this irregular syncing problem.

Water in the cable will also cause this but seeing that your attenuation stays the same I don't think it is a water problem.

Hope this helps...

I had the same kind of problem at my internet cafe a few years back, drove me insane. turned out it was the adsl router that couldn't handle all the dns request and would freeze up.

Yeah it is a real beeeech! So what are you suggesting i do?

@AciDT: nice steps there :) thanks! it does help

Set your DNS on your computer/s manually to 196.43.1.11 and 196.25.1.11, then your pc does the dns resolve directly and not your adsl router, this solved it for my cafe.
