Does anyone have any experience in setting up a web server at home and some dynamic IP DNS service, such as no-ip.com?
Running over their Telkom ADSL line of course.

I've got a Windows Server 2003 box connected via my wifi router to my ADSL modem. The site that I host at home is incredibly quick in response and it all works marvelously, except that my URL is my ever-changing IP address. :o

Are there any SA Dynamic DNS hosts around? (No-ip is free)

Jeeves, I personally use DynDNS.org, primarily because my Netgear router updates the IP for me automatically on their servers. Their setup is pretty simple, and best of all (at least, depending on what you want), they're free.

Also made use of DynDNS.. but I have a stupid Marconi router. Luckily they have an app available which detects IP changes and updates DynDNS.

But, I switched to free hosting on Dataspace to protect my precious 3GB limit!!

:)

well you could also have a nicer address for you dynamic ip.

By registering a domain at www.za.net and using zoneedit as your dns servers. All that is left to get an application like "ddclient" that supports updating dynamic dns on zoneedit and walla you could have www.adsl.za.net if you wanted on your homedsl.

I am however unsure if ddclient is available to windows, as I have only used it on linux and freebsd.

I use dyndns at home, but I have also switched to www.dataspace.co.za . As a host they are great and they get you a .za.net domain in super quick time.

You can host on your own machine ... with a dynamic dns service ...but I rewcommend getting a 3rd party to do it for you as they usually have the infrastructure to support it ... and anyway if local bandwith is not an issue you can get a gig of space and 10-15 gigs of bandwith for between U$5-15 a month in the states
