Hi,

I've a branch office in Gaborone and recieved the message below.

Please note minimum speed ....

Will keep you updated on costs etc. Unfortunately my experience is that it is almost impossible to get info out of the Botswana systems. Everything needs to be asked in detail to get part of the answer :-(

And they're willing to offer minimum download speeds! Let us know what the specs are.

I hope their offer is much cheaper than ours. It'll give us some real firepower as they're right next to us.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Botswana was one of the countries interested in the SAFE cable, as telkom was charging them a soul and a half for bandwidth.

Pricing info would be nice. Minimum 256... Mmmmm. Interesting.

Progress:

It seems as if ADSL will follow the South African model - BTC supplying one part and your ISP the second part.

It is difficult to get information - I have only admin people in Botswana and I have to define every question they need to ask :-)

I don't have any other info yet - and won't be going to Botswana soon again.

Those who have more info, please post it here and let us help each other.

I've been to Gaborone yesterday - what a day - be thankfull for small mercies like Telkom when it gets to service. BTC is terrible when it gets to customer admin services sucha as getting a postal address changed etc.

ADSL feedback:

BTC: You must order it at your ISP. Here is a list of ISP's. Management has not told them yet what the ADSL rates are.

Botsnet (an ISP): Here are the BTC ADSL application forms. We still don't have costs as BTC is still testing. But as soon as the costs are available we will install it for you.

From the form:

Speeds:

256/64
512/128
768/256

They will offer USB, Ethernet and Four port Ethernet modems which you can rent or buy.

The BTC website was updated and they have some more info under products (www.btc.bw)

Now your knowledge on ADSL in Botswana is on par with mine :-)
