We could really do with some Capetonian help (we are located in JHB). We need to get for four sites in the Cape Town area (Newlands, Constantia, Westlake and Durbanville) onto ADSL asap – These sites only have PRI connections and have no analogue phone connections.

Is there some way we can expedite the installation – even if we have to pay a premium?

There is some spare copper to sites.

Any help will be appreciated – we are really hurting

Unfortunately you are totally screwed. Even with the might of MTN behind us our multinational company cannot expedite ADSL (or diginet) line installations/repairs from Telkom.

Recently (February 2011) we had the ADSL line that feeds our warehouse go down, Telkom refused to send out a technician as they said their system detected that there was no power to the router. Took MTN (who supplied the ADSL router to link us into our MPLS network) almost 6 weeks to persuade Telkom to send out a technician.

When the technician arrived he discovered that a Telkom technician who installed a voice line previously had crushed the cable when putting the conduit back on again.

Took him 5 minutes to repair after 6 weeks downtime costing us 10's of thousands of R's in lost productivity. Telkom don't guarantee a line once it's installed, even if it doesn't work you have to pay.

Telkom in Midrand have taken 4 months to upgrade our Diginet line for our Midrand branch from 512kb to 768kb. They were supposed to be there on Monday at 9pm. Called me here in Cape Town as they didn't have any idea of the address or even what they were supposed to do. Ended up not even going out to do the upgrade, scheduled again for Tuesday, didn't pitch. Have rescheduled again for Friday but I'm not holding my breath.
