For Telkom/SA my service is quite good.
However, compared with my service in the UK my service in Glencairn is VERY POOR and extremely EXPENSIVE:crying:
Going home is wonderfull cos only does the Broadband work fast I also don't have Multichoice to rip me off. Mind you all my viewing in SA is BBC/ ITV etc via I Players and an Apple TV Box

I use to reside in Gelncairn when there were only buildings on one side of the valley, there was a masonic hall and a couple of houses directly opposite.... got a fright to see how crowded my valley had become......

What is the name of the cafe, just passed the Glencairn Hotel on the way to Simonstown? Was it Dixies or something like that?

'Sorry for hijacking thread?, got carried away when hearing of the place I love so much!"

I'm actually in Seaforth, but cannot bear the thought of opening another thread amongst all these. Wish they'd subdivide them by region to save the hunt.

Having moved from UK in 2005 i agree about crap broadband - it has yet to catch up with my old cable service and costs far more. Also I hate Multichoice and would scrap it at once and try anything else, but my wife is addicted.

I depend on ADSL for business, so have WebAfrica business 10Gbps capped. So teleconferencing and VoIP are vital for me, and are not bad. When I check with PingTest I usually get a B+ or better. There have been times of horrible degradation and I've had to get Telkom to deal with those.

A nasty thing happened a year or so ago when our capped bandwidth was going down the plug hole and somehow a family on the mountain were getting it. So I went to their secure service. I tried the cheap overnight bandwidth but for some reason iGetter does not work with iTunes, or anything else useful, so I have to get up in night to set downloads.

"At my initiation I was taught to be cautious..."

Yes, Dixies. A busy restaurant now.

Gatvol.

Heavy rains last night and 10Mbps ADSL Down _again_ today.

Noise on the voice line and line manages to keep synchronisation only on a 1024Kbps profile and then only for about five minutes at a time. Lucky if I'm pushing 28Kbps over it while it's up.

They keep sending folk over to "fix" it after which it may be great for a couple days and then it dies again.

Worst part is that my 3G MTN dongle gets barely any signal out here either.

Having real difficulty running my business.

I know it's a long shot but does anyone know of a wireless provider that can provide connectivity on the mountain?

ADSL still down today.

Still not a single update on Telkom's "Track a Fault" page.

@TelkomZA swear blind the problem has been escalated but the line is still screwed and we are yet to see a single Telkom truck in the area.

Looks like I'm camping out at a coffee shop with my 3G dongle today if I want to get any work done this week.
