My brother told me last night that his ADSL was upgraded to a 6Mb line in Holland. His internet traffic is totally uncapped and all his landline calls in Holland is totally free.

His total cost is 60 Euro or R450, This include the line rental, ADSL, Internet subscription as well as all the calls in Holland for free.

I am paying R405 for ISDN closer 30, plus R114 for Telkom internet, plus R150 for 150 hours internet during callmore time plus all calls more than 1000 minutes during normal hours and all calls longer than 1 hour during call more time. My bill for dial-up excluding additional calls work out to be R669. I pay 50% more for dial-up that is limited.

This is a disgrace or perhaps the reality of living in Telkom Rip Off Country. It is time for something to be done by the Government.

Holland is alot smaller than here... i know its not an excuse for how crap we are but yeah... For such a small country it should have cheaper ADSL...

That's what all the telkom techies tell me when I say their services are expensive.

Not saying you're a telkom techie Scooby_Doo

Holland may be small, but so is Gauteng even smaller than Holland and Holland can be the nice example for Telkom on how to implement ADSL.

Telkom can start with Gauteng (all of it), The Western Cape Metropolitan area, Durban Pinetown, PE Uitenhage.

Start small with blanket coverage like Gauteng - all of Gauteng - and then move to all cities in order of size.

Still harder and more costly to connect and put down cable to connect those centers than the whole of holland... But still it shouldn't be as much as we have to pay...

I dont think small is an excuse

Iceland has a population of 300 000. With 6mb DSL and your TV on Demand over it for R699 Uncapped (Within reason)

They have 4mb Line which is 400 Rand at 3 gigs capped (lol) However they dont cap you...You then pay after for usage with a max of R750

So if you do 200 gig you only pay R750

Still a wee bit expensive compared to holland and other countries...but a hell of a lot better than here :p

I thought our ADSL is expensive because the market here is small ??? Economies of scale and all that. Go figure !!!!

Our ADSL is so expensive because telkom dictates the prices of everything related to ADSL. We have to pay for the line (over and over and over and over . . . .) then we have to pay for the data. All roads pretty much lead to telkom.
