Hmm oh the joy of telkom. been having line problems since 1st april logged 5 seperate calls. God knows how many escalations. have asr numbers, and seen technician a few times. Yesterday i lost it at the guy. he reckons he cant do anything for my line and suggests i downgrade from my 1meg ADSL to a 384 or goto ISDN i have an old opto coupler modem stashed somewhere in case they want me to downgrade any further. Chased the useless twat of a technician out the gate.... my line crackles like its on an old nommer aseblief manual exchange.. and to top it telkom says they will only work out the credits on the line when it is fixed. Supervisor has said they coming to my property today. Supervisor says i should go with the new W-CDMA offering, Called them to check coverage and hey guess what no Coverage. Can i chop down the Telkom pole in the corner of my garden? please..... i know it wont help me get my problem fixed but will make me feel sooo much better...:(:(:(

i feel your pain. i have been trying to get a new telkom line & adsl for over a year now... truth is that there isnt an internet option that is as good as adsl at the moment (price vs speed vs reliability)

oh well, i wouldnt want to wait for another year. maybe i should just keep my hsdpa card and go neotel...?

PaulCr, where about's are you?

When I applied for my ADSL line I did some research and apparantly the copper wires in Lonehill are so f***ed up, and Telkom don't wanna do anything to fix it.

Luckily I got ADSL install, but it only syncs at around 2mbps, not the 4mbp or even 8mbps like the few have been getting on here.

Log a fault for the voice part of the line. Tell them you hear crackles. Don't report it as a ADSL fault. For ADSL they can just suggest a downgrade but for voice they have to actually fix the problem. Seems like a bad connection somewhere along your line but getting a Telkom techie to go to all the boxes along your line to check will be hopelessly too much effort for them

56K will actually give more problems so may I suggest Morse code or is the crackling that bad that even that will be a problem?

woah dude - I'm in la gratitude, and I've had nothing less than a solid 4Mb for 4 years now.
That is until a couple of weeks ago when Mweb announced uncapped - since then I've been throttled to 2.6Mb (speed measured to my server at IS didata campus 5km away).

Persist - they CAN get it right...
