Has anybody on here living in Midstream have ADSL?

I have been trying since 2005 to get a telephone line and ADSL.
I get the same story every time I apply "we are busy with a project in your area"
How long can this project take?
There is a fiber network running in the estate which is run by the local mafia.
I say mafia because the installation cost for their service is R4500.
I am not paying that amount !!
What can I do ?

There is over 7000 people living in this estate , surely Telkom must be able to assist.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Midstream is that not that uber super rich estate in the east between midrand and centurion?

If it is, then R4500 would be nothing!!! Wait till they tell you that you pay R14000 a meg of data transferred.

Why not find out about wimax?

They are talking BS about ADSL ... my neighbour's got ADSL, and quite a couple of other people I know of.

There used to be a project, as Midstream was the test area for "ADSL over Fibre" (our phone lines are running fibre from Rooihuiskraal).

The local crowd(s) - 2 of them if I remember correctly, are pretty much as crap as e-Tube used to be. If it works it works well, but it works about 5% of the time.

So I am on Vodacom HSDPA

Maybe the local mafia is scaring them away, you know everybody got its teritory. telkom screws south africa and your local mafia screws midstream

Don't even get me started on those idiots!

I dont want WiMAX.
I want a low latency connection like 4MB ADSL

I can confirm that Midstream Estates have ADSL capability. I set it up for a client last year and I visit him regularly to help with other queries. Line is still up and running as we speak.

I tried to get a few people there up and running with 3G/HSDPA, but coverage from both 3G networks are to say the least, extremely bad. You cannot even place a proper voice call from the residence of the client as mentioned above, and for those that know the area - he is nowhere close to the powerlines running past the Estate.

I am of course still without Telkom service.
I am desperate now , I first applied in 2005 and have been getting the run around since then.

A friend of mine who lives on a plot in Midrand applied and got his line within 2 weeks.

I have now spoken to the guys in planning Pieter Pieterse (012 311 1692 / 082 773 5939) and to his supervisor Elliot (012 311 3499 / 082 823 5474)
No answer yet.
I just cant believe that I am the only person living in Midstream Estate that wants an ADSL line?

If there is anybody living in Midstream using ADSL.
PLEASE can you PM me your land line number, Telkom is now denying ADSL availability in Midstream.
Thanx very much.

WoW, what is the montly cost of it?

Fibre will have pretty impressive latency, better than adsl. If you really want low latency the fibre is not a bad idea...

Let's bump this discussion after a few years.... ;)

Last time I checked Midstream did have access to an ADSL exchange but the same wasn't true for Midfield or Midlands.

I recently moved in at Midfield. Although Smartvillage service is OK, it would be great to have ADSL-proper as a backup...

I just phoned Telkom but the poor call centre operator could not (after several minutes of trying) locate my address on their system.

Anyone else had any luck?

Nothing has changed. Midstream does have ADSL, the others don't. I am running Smart Village with a Neotel backup

Any other ISP's or infrastructures, like wireless internet perhaps? Or is it just Smart Village and Neotel?

Not even Neotel fibre. Only infrastructure is Smart Village. I use Neotel Neo-something wireless as backup

Thanks. Very limited. How is LTE in the area in and around Midlands?
What about WiMax?

We have good coverage in Midstream/Midlands area why not give us a try. Click WISP/WIFI section and read about the best wireless broadband in centurion...

Your coverage map does not reflect coverage of Midlands Estate. Is the coverage map up to date?

Hhhmmm, can't say that I agree 100%, unless coverage for different services differ
