OK, so being new here, this is how I see the process of getting ADSL, right from the beginning to end. If there is something incorrect, or I have left out, please let me know. Im still learning, so could use all the info!!

1. Check my tel line supports DSL (it does)
2. Call Telkom and request DSL install
3. Telkom installs DSL on the line for R437.50. Should be free since we are doing them a favour really... :(
4. Telkom verifies DSL line is installed (do they do any physical install on pc's at this point too????)
5. Setup account with ISP
6. Get Login details from ISP
7. Setup ADSL modem with pc's etc.
8. Install relevant software
9. Connect with login details
10. Now we live!!

Have I left anything out? Is this order correct, or how would you do it?? ANY input appreciated!

Cheers
CF! ;)

Looks good to me. Just don't think you need step 8.

Nope they plug in their little crappy marconi, check that it sync's and p1ss off. No installation on PC.

But otherwise the list looks fine.

OK, kewl. Glad to see I am learning stuff and on the right track. Just realised Im in for some uphill....my telephone line (the only 1) is in the main bedroom. The study is where the 2 pc's sit. So Telkom is gonna have to install another tel line in the study, right?

How much is this gonna set me back???

Rather get a private contracter or somebody that deals with telephones to come and install a "extention" from the main bedroom to the study, otherwise Telscum is going to charge you an extra R17 a month on top of your normal bill for the "extention" that they have put in. They are going to say that they have to install an extra point...... yak yak yak yak, or you can just bribe the Tech to do it for you!:p

Crap...thats what I thought....hmmm, maybe I should try bribe the techie...dont wanna run extensions, cos its gonna look messy...seriously, think Im gonna get someone outside Telkom to do the extra tel point...

Just a tip. Don’t call Telkom to order your line. Go to a Telkom shop. Much better it has been proven!
