Well so far ...sort of... so good.

26 May 10:30 - Applied online

26 May 16:45 - phoned by Telkom to confirm order
26 May 17:00 - phoned by telkom with order number and further confirmation
27 May 13:00 - sms'd by telkom with "funny number" number

30 May - phone Telkom to determine install date. I was informed that my order was cancelled on 27 May because of lack of ports at exchange, and they have a note that a new order was taken out automatically but no note of new order number. Give lady sms'd number which turns out to be the new order number. She says everything is approved, new DSLAM installed and awaiting install date, I will be phoned with an install date

2 Jun - phone Telkom to determime install date. Informed that the order is with the technical dept and I should hear from them in 3 days.

7 Jun - phoned by Telkom, install to be done on 15 June.

14 Jun - phone Telkom to confirm order date

15 Jun 07:59 - Wayne from Telkom phones and leaves message to phone him back

15 Jun 08:30 - Phone Wayne from Telkom to confirm that he will install this morning

15 Jun 09:00 - Wayne from Telkom phones to say he is at the Exchange starting the install.

so far so good...

/me checks temperature on Hell's thermometer...

looks like trouble

Awesome man! Let us know when you're up!

Despite there being alot of Telkom haterz here, there have been more flashes of good service since Telkom have become a public company.

As a former parastatal straight out of the bad old days it will take a lot to transform the company into a service oriented public company from being a state run "you take what we give you" type company. Profit chasing and future competition will ensure this.

Just a thought…

Just been phoned by Wayne from Telkom.

The line is up, and I'm ready to go. Just need some filters, apparently you only get when you buy a Telkom Modem...bugger.

Also, another question. When I applied I stated that I wanted a Telkom 3gig account but I've not heard anything from TelkomInternet, so does that mean I would still have to apply, or they've set it up and not told me or am I free to just go get myself a 10gig account somewhere else?

Yup - thats the buggerup in their process.
You get to phone telkominternet, 0800 DSL DSL, give them your tel #, they give you a username and password, then you can setup your stuff.

but what if I don't phone them? Will they still charge me for an account?

Oh good grief.

I phoned TelkomInternet to cancel the 3gig account but when I got through I was imformed that they weren't finished installing my ADSL and I must phone tomorrow??? How does that work? surely when the techy is finished with the install, it's finished?

it wont reflect on their systems until he logs it, meaning, they still think it's unfinished

lol I think everyone has gone through that. It is very frustrating looking at a installed and working ADSL line, and then have Telkom telling you that it has not been installed yet. Takes about 24 hours, if the techie does his homework correctly. Don't even get me started on getting a TelkomInternet account username and password.

Aah, thanks...

Well I've gotten my Imaginet 10gig details all ready...will try tonight...maybe I get lucky

I doubt their service will improve after having retrenched half their staff :( all that will happen is staff wil have to work harder to please more people, upon which they will go home and take it out on their families.
