ADSL intermittent speed, changes quickly

Hey all

Today I am posting here becuause I cam accross something irritating.

I am with Web Africa and recently I've been having problems with my adsl.

My internet speed is intermittent and would drop from 200KBps to 50KBps to 0KBps and then back to 200KBps in a matter of 30 seconds over and over again.
It also feels like I have a bit of packet loss, but I think it is the result of my above problem.

I would like to know what this is and what can cause it.

Need more information:
What WebAfrica package are you on?
What is your line speed?
What is your location?
Where are you seeing the speed drops? P2P (torrents)? Streaming? HTTP Downloads?
Is anyone else using your network?

Try using the Telkom guest account:
How to set up a PPPoE connection in Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-za/windows-vista/create-a-pppoe-connection-to-the-internet
username: guest@telkomadsl
password: guest

Then go to http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/ and run a speed test. Disconnect from the test account after tests and post results.
