Hello Don't know whether you can help, we have a potential customer looking for internet access from several locations in Cape Town, I'm trying to establish what servcie are currently available

We provide our solution in the UK via MPLS, Leaseline and ADSL, ADSL can be obtained with 1:1 contention is this available in CT

We need about 2mb down and 1mb is this type of service available?

thanks for your help

Dont think ure gonna find that in S.A, for anything cheap.

Hi Neville,

Can you post / pm me a bit more detail and I'll see what I can come up with.

I.E. when you say multiple locations, what exactly do you mean.

What type of troughput is estimated (remember ADSL has a 3GB cap here).

Are service levels and dedicated bandwidth important?

What exactly is the connectivity going to be used for? Email / Browsing, or VPN / Hosting etc.

Hi Neville Briggs welcom to MyAdsl,
yes your request is a bit vague.

The 1024Kbps is the max adsl connection you can get in SA at the moment, regarding the cap we have the normal 3gig cap and some larger cap services ranging from 3 - 30gig, there are also a large range of uncapped solutions but the prices vary, I am not going to speak about prices, I leave this for the isp's.

Thanks for the response, we host our application in the UK through our own hosting centres, it's a dealer management system for Car Retailers (www.pinewood.co.uk) so if there are any ISP's who like to talk/email me re some the different options available that would be good

we would require a always on service and we have the application running in the UK 1mb down 256kb up with contention, but we would prefer a 1:1 and maybe an option to increase the bandwidth, we also offer the service over MPLS 512kb 1mb 1.5 and 2mb and this is our prefered solution

Obviously I am concerned about price but are these services available?

Thanks for your help

Neville

The fastest DSL service here is based on G-Lite technology and offers 1MBit down and 256Kbits up. Contension ratios are quite high, but the speeds are as stated.

Would you know whether MPLS feely available?

Neville

I haven't heard any mention of it by the service providers here... bare in mind however that there are actually on 4 providers in the country with their own networks. I know most of them have setup BGB routers, but as for as dynamic routing goes, I'm sure as to it's depth.

Edit: my point is, if there is a link failure, that whole network segment usuall dies without much redundancy... The only ADSL network is Telkom's so if the peering link to them goes down for your service provider, then it all falls apart.

I have emailed techical staff at UUnet and IS, and I will forward you thier resonse.

Hi Neville
