ADSL is about to die

Telkom is getting ready to kill ADSL in November when they start charging per usage.
I heard that the SAT3 cable is being upgraded so i dont understand why Telkom would be so mean as to start charging us when the bandwidth is only going to be growing.
Someone needs to do something about this problem otherwise SA is going to be left behind in the global internet community..

There is no way in hell I am going back to 56K or ISDN ... so Telkom has us all by the short and curly's.

So unless ICASA steps in and slaps Telkom silly I will have to cut down my monthly usage to 10GB .

Who do you think has to pay for the upgrade?
Telkom wouldn't upgrade the link unless they had a plan to recoup the capital expenditure in 2 months.
It’s what Telkom calls "Economies of Scale", once we have recouped our costs, and a fat profit, we will consider realistic (or, at least, not quite as obscene) pricing.

I doubt the SNO will make a difference. Every now and then I get a glimmer of hope only to be shattered by a more sober and logical thought. The truth is that for the time being until gov realises that the market should be completely opened up we will have to rely heavily on regulation by honest and hard working councilors at ICASA. We also need a minister who actually knows what she is doing and who is not a "technophobe"...

Let us all say a silent prayer, hoping that ICASA will realize that they have left a huge loophole for Telkom to regain all profits lost by tariff control. Or does ICASA truely believe that the price increase from R300 to above R1500 is justifiable, since they dropped the price of line rental with a measly R100???

but until it happens i believe its just rumours because i cant loose my 30 gig account

i love it so much so im gonna stay optimistic

and there is no way i would cancel my adsl i would rather pay for 5 gigs even if it is 300 or 400 rand atleast i can play bf2 still
