ADSL is dog slow today - anyone else experiencing same?

Yeah, in the past... I wouldn't recommend them for gaming at the moment.
My WebAfrica capped account is great! I love it, no issues with it and it probably has the lowest latency. Vox account as well, although more expensive than WebAfrica and I think WA has a slightly better ping on average (like 3/4 ms).

Axxess and Afrihost have a higher ping between 20-40ms to EU servers.
 
It would seem Axxess's business account is not actually "Always Unshaped. This service has no prioritization of any traffic. In other words; unshaped is a better, faster connection." as advertised.

Their support guys are adamant that it's my line causing the slower-than-usual speeds the last few days (they sent me a port error report which means nothing to me, just a bunch of numbers...), however when I switch to my other uncapped unshaped business account on the same line it flies at the full 4MB without any issues or "port errors" - me thinks someone is telling untruths...

They apparently sent out the AUP update on 24 August, however I've never seen this, either via e-mail, post or on the customer dashboard. I have requested a copy of the notification. Funny how the monthly invoices are sent out and received though...

I believe this account is purely being throttled by Axxess - I've only used 100GB this month, compared to 368GB last month and 284GB/767GB the first two months; usage varies each month.
Currently getting 10KB/s on nntp (int - local is 30KB/s), 38KB/s on http browsing/dl/e-mail - the lag on page loading is ridiculous.

There is no mention of throttling or rolling periods in their terms, nor any threshold level where the account is shaped to death. I've used many different ISP's in the past and after reading all the bumfph and terms at the time of signing up for this account, was under the impression that this business account was unshaped and uncapped - obviously not.

I don't know what the previous terms and AUP stated, but the new updated one is:
"Business Uncapped. This is an uncapped account that is prioritised for Business Users where high priority is required for typical business protocols. These business protocols such as VOIP, Terminal Services, Web Browsing and Email are unshaped. Axxess reserves the right, to at its discretion manage non typical business protocols such as NNTP, Peer-to-Peer, Https Downloading and Torrents."

So I understand the slower nntp speeds, but not the http/mail speeds. I don't understand the fundamental difference between "Unshaped", "no prioritisation", "prioritised for business users" and "manage non typical business protocols" - seems like a massive contradiction IMO.

Therefore cancelled the account today and will move to a different ISP - just glad there is no 30-day clause bull**** like OW...
 
Again internet unusable, GW2 update starts then hangs after 130-150 kb downloaded, changed to new router, no difference, cannot update GW2, cannot connect to AION ... , surfing seems fine ...
 
Now it is running like it should ... , I fail to understand ... , now it is running like a greyhound down the home straight ... , but from 04:00 till now a tortoise on crutches would have done better ...

More than likely ... , should run fine till later this evening, but hell, I am paying for a service, on contract, and not getting service, as and when I need it.
 
Just signed up with CW on their "Crystal Clear Uncapped Unshaped" service and speed is perfect! Full 4MB line speed on all protocols, no lag, low ping - brilliant!
...and only a few bucks more than what I was paying as axxess...

For me its SAIX, if I switch to a afrihost account during the sudden death slow mowness, then I get full speed so it is different an ISP related issues and not congestion at the dslams.
 
also experiencing extremely crappy speeds after 16:00 .. is it telkom or a general issue?
thinking of changing isp's but it is a lot of sjlep :( hate how they can take your money immediately but when they can't deliver you must wait it out for a month.
 
I put the blame with Telkom 99% of the time. Their infrastructure is totally borked and they don't upgrade where needed.

When I downgraded my line from 10mb to 4mb a few months back, due to their exchange not being able to handle 10mb, it took 3 days to reconnect... should have been immediate imo
